Mira, an Indian Painted Stork, became a symbol of resilience and adaptability. Born in captivity, she displayed an unusual behavior: a relentless urge to migrate. Despite being in a controlled environment, Mira instinctively attempted to fly north every year as the seasons changed. The zoo staff decided to create a special aviary for Mira, complete with simulated seasonal environments and ample flying space.
This project became a breakthrough in understanding migratory instincts in captive birds. Visitors loved watching Mira “migrate” within the zoo, and her story was incorporated into an educational exhibit about the importance of preserving wetlands for migratory birds. Mira’s determination to follow her instincts captivated everyone who heard her story, reminding visitors of the wonders of nature.
